I'm Joe Caterine, the web and content strategist at William & Mary's VIMS & Batten School, a marine science institute. Since I started in August 2025, I've rolled out a web governance structure supporting 30 web editors, coordinated a content cleanup that removed over 20,000 outdated assets, and led the remediation of web accessibility issues ahead of the (original) April 2026 WCAG 2.1 compliance deadline. Before my current position, I was the Digital Experience Manager at Virginia Sea Grant, where I led the development of the Aquaculture Information Exchange — a NOAA/USDA-backed platform for the American aquaculture community that grew from 200 to 2,000+ members under my watch.

My interest in web development and programming started when I was a journalist. One example is a piece I did for the Virginia Mercury, where I analyzed data from the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services to plot a rise in mental health crisis events over the past decade. I also published a walkthrough on YouTube explaining how I used PDFplumber to extract the data.

In my spare time, I enjoy vibe coding games for my family and building digital tools for myself, like a simple mobile-first workout tracker.
